Podcast #336: The Gluten Lie.

Alan Levinovitz

Guest: Alan Levinovitz

Break’s over!

Underground Wellness Radio is officially BACK with a brand new interview with Alan Levinovitz, author of The Gluten Lie.

Yes, The Gluten LIE.

Is Alan saying that there’s no such thing as celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity?

Nope.

But he does make some very interesting and valid points about WHY so many people are suddenly becoming gluten sensitive when they never really had a problem with it before.

If you watched The Depression Sessions, many of our experts discussed the power of belief when it comes to the effectiveness of antidepressant drugs.

In other words, there’s a lot of science showing that antidepressants work because the person taking them believes they will work. In many studies, people given sugar pills that they think are antidepressants experience elevations in mood and energy. That’s called the placebo effect, of course.

But have you heard of the nocebo effect?

The Podcast about Gluten-Free Lies, Leaky Gut, & JERFing. (#218)

sad-breadby Allyson the Assistant

As many of you know, Sean has been feeling a bit under the weather this week so I’m stepping in to share with you guys some awesome info from Dr. Peter Osborne’s show on UW Radio last week, The Gluten Free Lie.

May 18th will mark my 3-year anniversary working for Sean and let me tell you, since then, I’ve learned a TON about the evils of gluten.

But the coolest thing about working for Sean is that I’m always learning more. I know consuming gluten is linked to developing autoimmune disease, but listening to Dr. Osborne’s podcast really helped shed some light on the science behind it.

Simply put, ignoring a gluten sensitivity leads to leaky gut.

And leaky gut leads to autoimmune disease.

How can this happen?

The cells in the gut that line the intestine are tightly bound together to keep bacteria and toxins from the food we eat inside the GI tract, preventing them from getting into the bloodstream.

Gluten can cause the gut cells to open up and drift apart, allowing food proteins to slip between the cells. Since 80% of our immune systems resides in the lymphatic system behind the gut wall, the escaped food proteins start to cause an immune reaction.

Here’s the kicker – molecular mimicry.

Guest: Dr. Peter Osborne

Is going gluten free enough?

Guest Dr. Peter Osborne doesn’t think so. According to his research and clinical experience, gluten-free grains, legumes, and seeds can be equally damaging to the gut.

Learn how these seemingly “safe” foods may be at the root of unexplained and unnecesssary symptoms.

The Gluten-Free Hoax [VIDEO]

The Gluten Free Hoax

I like gluten-free beer.

So, every so often I’ll mosey down the road to the local health food store and score myself a six-pack before the big game.

A couple months ago, while swiping my debit card to complete my purchase, the guy bagging my brewskies initiated an awkward discourse. It went like this…

Bagger: Do you have celiac?

Me: No, I don’t.

Bagger: Then why are you buying gluten-free beer?

He had that I-should-be-rolling-my-eyes-but-I’m-at-work look on his face, as if I were some dunce just following the gluten-free crowd.

If I had the time I would have broken into full YouTube video mode and dropped some truth bombs on him, but the checker was already handing me my receipt.

So I replied…
