Gut Bacteria is GOOD For You! (DVD Giveaway!)

by Sean Croxton

Oh, yeah! We’re giving away FREE schwag today!

I spent the couple days pouring over Natasha Campbell-McBride’s book Gut and Psychology Syndrome as well as watching the fascinating lecture she gave at The Weston A. Price Foundation’s Wise Traditions Conference 2011 in London on DVD.

In a nutshell, gut flora is king! If your flora is out of balance, you’ve got problems.

The problem is that we tend to not take our gut flora as seriously as we should. Why? Well, it’s most likely due to lack of education. No one is really talking about these health-giving microbes in schools or in the media — well, besides those ridiculous high-sugar yogurt commercials.

So, today’s video is my rendition of Dr. Campbell-McBride’s wonderful lecture. Actually, it’s the first 10 minutes of her 90-minute talk. There’s enough material in that lecture to cover two weeks of videos! Stay tuned for more.

Click the video below and be sure to leave a comment to enter our Wise Traditions London 2011 DVD giveaway contest. We’re giving away this 4-DVD set to three lucky commenters.

In addition to Dr. Campbell-McBride, the DVD includes presentations by:

* Zoe Harcombe, MA
* Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, MD
* Barry Groves, PhD
* Kaayla T. Daniel, PhD, CCN
* Jerry Brunetti
* Graham Harvey

For more info, click HERE.

I’ll announce the winners by video Friday morning.

Have a gut flora-friendly day!

Great job on the video. Every time I watch your latest videos, I feel like I am in school again, but I like it. I wish they would teach this in school, would be really useful 🙂

  2. Amy

Thanks for the run-down. Like a lot of your stuff, I feel like I can refer folks to it who need a basic primer.

Count me in for the DVD giveaway. Thanks!

  3. Adam Sharif

Thanks for the great work sean. I am studying to be a dietitian and this is helpful to see other side of things that unfortunately are not taught in this career but are so important for health.

  4. Lissa

Thanks for this! Apparently I have some issue with my gut, primarily leaky gut syndrome. This has led to all sorts of wonderful things, like poor absorption, especially of iron and other essential minerals, which in turn has led to poor adrenal function and hypothyroidism. Fun stuff, for sure. Trying to clean up my little world to avoid the toxins and other crap, but it’s either going to drive me crazy or to bankruptcy.

  5. Sana

Love the way you break down information, and I think I’ve watched every single video you have up.
    Enter me please!

  6. ik

Gut and psychology (or neurology), to me, is by far the most interesting nutritional topic, and I really look forward to see these theories further developed and applied. I think you’re doing a great job putting everything together.

  7. Anna D

So glad you doing the videos again. I was actually waiting for you to touch upon N Campbell’s work on gut flora. Very good as all your awesome videos. Looking forward for the next one.
    Keep up the good work!

  8. Agnes

Thank you for addressing this important topic !!! Your efforts to make the scientific explanations understandable to everyone is truly appreciated!

  9. Mandy

Awesome video! Love the way you teach! Seeing that the last comp had 3 guy winners I think you should ensure that there is at least one lady this time:-)

  10. Denise

Spot on!! You are excellent at scarfing up all this great information and kicking it back out for the rest of us. So appreciate it! Thank you, thank you.

  11. Bilal

Watched this on YouTube, great video. I def’ would like to know more about probiotics. Should everyone be taking probiotics, or only some people with certain conditions? Should they be cycled? Are some probiotics better than others? Can’t wait!

  12. Eric

My digestion has been outta whack since I was a kid… I need to know how to start fresh and rebuild my healthy gut bacteria back up to where it should be. What’s the point of a healthy diet if you can’t even absorb all that damn nutrients!?

  13. Kim

Thanks for making this video. I have been tying to solve my “gut issues” for almost 2 years now and every little bit of information helps. They are stil not solved but maybe I will learn something that will help. Keep up the good work!

Love to see someone talking about gut flora and how cruticial it is to overall health in the body including fat loss! Not many people discuss how this relates to fat loss. Its often talked about wth imune issues or autism like in GAPS, but I have not seen fat loss discussed allot when it comes to the good bacteria. As always sean your a insperation! 🙂

  15. Adebayo

Your on fire right now blood, I love it! I’m reading the Body Ecology Diet(Lifestyle) and I’m also gonna make some Raw milk Kefir and Coconut water Kefir for me and my family so I know how important this message is. We need more info like this to hit the mainstream man!

  16. Marie

Gut bacteria balance also affects other parts of your body. I was having trouble getting rid of a reoccurring yeast infection until I started taking probiotics and reducing my sugar intake. No internal or external medication made a difference but re-balancing my gut fixed the problem and I’ve been infection free for years. 🙂

  17. SoakMyGrains

Thanks for this little ditty about gut flora! I’ve been cooking with Nourishing Traditions for a solid year now and have just started branching out into the network of fellow Weston A Price Foundation folks to learn more and more! I love your enthusiasm and web presence and I can’t wait to check out more videos! Thank you so much!

  18. Nichole

Great info, Sean! You have a nice way of explaining things succinctly and clearly. I would love to see a video about how to make the gut healthy and detoxing safely. I understand that just living in today’s society we are exposed to toxins even when we try to do the organic way of life. I am also interested in how dental decay/root canal can affect your health, and how to counteract potentially bad stuff happening when you do have a root canal. Please enter me in the drawing.

  19. lynette

What a great video! I want to know more. You have me convinced to get the book 🙂 Currently working on leaky gut, and I think most of us are at a disadvantage lacking information about our guts, and almost all of our related digestion issues are preventable. Thank you so much for sharing this tidbit.

  20. shelby

Pick me! =) ive dealt with severe gut issues for most of my life, to the point where i am unfortunately unable to work now. I am researching GAPS and feel it will really help me. Keep up the good work, Sean!

  21. Adam crafter

Love how you lay it out and stick to solid science. Keep on doing what you obviously love to do.

    Adam

  22. Krystal

Excellent explanation! I love how the “Bad Flora” was shrinking and going bald! Your artwork and presentation skills are awesome!!! (*high five*)

  23. Ashley

I could barely find where to comment, I gotta get better with computers! I have been preaching this for 3 years to my friends and clients I help with health!! Thank you for posting these videos and I will do my best to spread them!!

  24. Edwin

Always love your videos Sean! You’re the first person that got me into health nutrition and I have learned a lot from your videos on youtube and your website. I’m really interested to know what would be a good probiotic.. I’ve been looking for one for a long time and I’m leaning on getting Dr. Mercola’s probiotic so far, but I’m wondering if you knew others perhaps better ones out there?

  25. Danny

Thanks for the great info as usual. I would love to learn more about this topic for my autoimmune diease.

  26. Will

Sean your videos are great and they display paradigm changing information highly relevant to me as a physician assistant student. It will greatly influence the way i practice when i am done. Keep up the phenomenal work!

  27. Michael Ngo

Long time subscriber of your youtube channel, and I’ve always love your videos! I like the fact that it gives a second look to our health system and gives us a open mind about what’s going on with health in this world. Thanks again!

  28. Heidi Romana

Sean, I just wanted to say thank you. I’m currently a final year University student studying Exercise, Nutrition and Health in England. The research I’ve found myself in comparison to Government regulations/ health advise on fat loss has perplexed me! You have opened my eyes to REAL health. I have definitely joined the dark side :).

  29. Mikey

Hey Sean. I’m a new member of your UW clan 🙂 I stumbled upon your videos just yesterday and I must say I am blown away! You do an awesome job!

I have not quite looked at all your videos yet but they are keeping my up at night because I keep wanting to watch “just one more” 🙂

Oh and tonight I’m up late again as I’m listening to your radio show about surviving stress. So excited!

Thank you so much for all your hard work. It is going to change my life!

  30. Bryan Hardy

Been following your videos for a couple years now. People like you are helping the rest of us to “just be healthy” and I thank you for it. Keep up the good work!

  31. rodrigobiz

I am following you for a some time now. Buy your book and its great so far =D
    Hope to gain the DVD’s

  32. Dave

Great Info as always, Sean. I just joined the Weston A. Price Foundation the other day. Wish I could make it to the Wise Traditions Conference being held this weekend, but hopefully this DVD set will be the next best thing! I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

  33. SoakMyGrains

Whoa Sean, you’ve got me hooked, man! My girlfriend’s mom read Wheat Belly and at first I kind of dismissed the book, chalking it up as another Atkin’s-like-fad. Seeking more information, I found your site in a quick Google search of WAPF reviews of Dr. Davis’ book and I’ve been watching videos and listening to podcasts for the last, well, six hours!! HA!! You just got a landed a new Foodie Groupie.
In considering this shift to a wheat-free diet, my biggest concern is breakfast and my most favorite vehicles for butter. If soaked and fermented grains are out, what am I to do?
I believe in the magical duo of butter and fermented cod liver oil and I’m wondering if you have suggestions for starting my mornings off right. Thank you!

  34. Donnell Allan

Oh, my goodness. I have been watching and re-watching the Wise Traditions London videos on Vimeo for weeks. Today I was so wishing I could afford to buy the full video set. I would love to win this! Thanks for the opportunity.

  35. Mercia Plenderleith

Sean, I have been watching your Vid’s on YouTube for just over a year now, and you have changed my life, If I have any health questions or issue’s your stuff is the first stop where I search for answers! So looking forward to reading the Darkside of Fatloss and Watching my copy of the Wise Traditions Lecture. Keep up the awesome research!

  36. Patty

I love you and your website. Completely awesome!

I just want to add that I breastfed my daughter for a good, long time. We’ve avoided vaccines and antibiotics and my daughter is the healthiest kid I know. She is five years old and has never, not once, had more than a small cold or flu, or required medication of any sort. Her good gut bacteria are alive and well, working for her!

I continue to learn from and be amazed by you. Thanks for sharing your passion with all of us!

  37. val

Everything relates to the gut, EVERYTHING. How you feel emotionally and physically, the start of disease, the base of our immune system (84% of it resides in our guts). It is important work and it’s disemination by folks like you that is helping shift the paradigm. I hope I win the dvds so I can show that our WAPF chapter meetings!! Pick me!!! Thanks!

  38. Gina

I really appreciate the simple way that you explain this. I always am explaining this to my clients and family. I am actually currently on GAPS to heal my gut flora imbalance! I would love this set of videos to use in my coaching practice and for my personal learning.

  39. Susan

My mom died from c-diff…and I’ve had c-diff twice since then. I am working on a healthy gut! Would love to win the DVD set. Thanks for your video and the information you provide to us!
