Podcast #348:
The Final Episode

“Reed

Guest: Reed Davis

November 12th, 2008.

It was on this very day seven years ago that Underground Wellness Radio first took to the internet airwaves.

Functional Diagnostic Nutrition founder, Reed Davis, and I chopped it up for 90 mins, answering the question, Is Stress Making You Fat?

In fact, Reed was my first and second guest. I guess I was too shy back then to ask anyone else to be on the show.

So when I was pondering who would be the perfect guest to send the podcast off into the sunset, I couldn’t think of anybody better than Reed. He was there at the beginning and he’s still here in the end. My main man.

On today’s final episode of Underground Wellness Radio, Reed and I get together one last time to show you how to become your own health detective … one who stops chasing symptoms and gets to the root cause. Topics include:

* How to navigate the “needs gap.” What to do when your doc or practitioner are stuck in their ways and unconcerned with finding what’s really causing your health challenges.

* Why diet and exercise aren’t always enough .. and how to assess the 4 Pillars of Health on which your health stands upon.

* What may be happening to your hormones if and when you’re feeling a little less “frisky”…

Click the PLAY button above to listen to the entire episode.

Though the podcast is ending, I’m not going anywhere. Be on the lookout for a brand new podcast coming in January. We’ll keep talking about health, just a little less.

You’ll still be able to find all 348 episodes of UW Radio on iTunes, Stitcher, BlogTalk Radio, and the UW website. If you’d like a complete list of episodes (with links to listen) please join The Transcribe Tribe. They’re all in there.

You’ll remain on my email list for our next adventure. There is no need to re-subscribe. When the new podcast launches, you’ll be the first to hear about it.

The Second Opinion Series will go on. Our next topic will be SLEEP in March 2016. Be on the lookout!

Lastly, my social media accounts will be changing a bit. Please join my “Sean Croxton” pages below. Thanks!

I have more to say at the end of today’s episode. I hope you get a chance to listen. If not, THANK YOU for supporting Underground Wellness Radio. It’s been a blast. I’m sad to bring it to end, but it’s time.

See you in January!

Podcast 267:
Ask the Thyroid Experts!

The Thyroid Sessions are changing the world!

As of this writing, a whopping 105.5K people have registered to attend the event and over 2000 comments have been posted on the presentation pages.

Many of those comments have been questions for our experts.

To ensure that you get the answers you’re looking for, I’m hosting 3 LIVE Q&A sessions on the UW podcast. The first session went down last Thursday, when Reed Davis, Ben Greenfield, Christa Orecchio, and Andrea Nakayama joined me for the hour.

Here’s what our callers asked and our experts answered:

3:38 – My TSH is normal but my antibodies are sky high. AND I have nodules. What should I do?

8:32 – I’m extremely gluten sensitive. Can gluten antibodies attack the thyroid enough to cause nodules? And what kind of dietary modifications should I make if I’ve had my thyroid removed?

12:50 – I have Graves’ disease and have had my thyroid irradiated. But I’m still experiencing weight gain and mood symptoms. What can I do?

20:09 – I have major digestive problems and have gone gluten-free. My thyroid scores are abnormal. I was told to investigate my gut, liver, and possible LPS toxicity. And thoughts?

23:24 – I have alopecia, an autoimmune disorder. Is there a connection to thyroid problems?

25:55 – Is there any connection between the MTHFR genetic mutation and Hashimoto’s?

28:07 – I am hypothyroid and gluten sensitive and have been diagnosed with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. What can I do to go deeper? Should I try juicing or colon cleansing? I’d like to put the antibodies in remission.

Functional Fat Loss Webinar!

Webinar blackboard sign
by Sean Croxton and Reed Davis

By popular demand!

Last night, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition founder, Reed Davis, myself, and about 400 attendees got together for this year’s first FREE webinar. The topic: Functional Fat Loss.

What does Functional Fat Loss mean?

Well, it means that fat loss is not just a matter of diet and exercise. As Reed pointed out early in his presentation, fat accumulation can be a symptom of some underlying — and often unaddressed — dysfunction within the hormonal, digestive, detoxification, and immune systems.

Diet and exercise are just two pieces of a MUCH larger puzzle.

For example, did you know that 60-percent of your thyroid hormone is activated in your liver? This particular hormone holds great influence over your metabolism. So if your liver is clogged up — due to toxins from food, personal care and cleaning products, as well as the general environment — this can put the brakes on your fat loss goals!

As a matter of fact, another 20-percent of thyroid is activated by the bacteria in your gut. The problem is that most of us have imbalanced gut flora, thus compromised metabolisms.

Click below to WATCH last night’s webinar.

I’ll be honest with you. While we intended this webinar to be for the general population, Reed got a bit carried away and was a bit too technical and jargon-y. That’s my fault for not reviewing the slides beforehand. My bad.

Due to this, Reed and I have decided to record a simplified version of the presentation. I’ll be posting it to this blog as soon as it is done.

So if you’re relatively new to this functional stuff, this may not be the webinar for you. But if you’re a trainer, health practitioner, or a nerd like me, this will be like brain candy for you.

Be sure to stick around to the end, when Reed and I offer you a $300 discount on the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition certification course. Use the coupon code UW300 at www.fdncourse.com.

If you’re interested in finding an FDN practitioner to work with, you may locate one HERE.

And last but not least, I will be hosting a Q&A session with Reed TOMORROW morning at 8am PT/11am ET on the radio show.

Here’s THE LINK.

Happy Friday, friends.

Chasing Symptoms: The H.I.D.D.E.N. Truth!

seek_truth_by_beautifullyevilby Sean Croxton

I got a text from my cousin yesterday.

He was hoping I could share with him a good — and of course, FAST — way to lose weight.

You can probably imagine what his New Year’s Resolution is.

Exactly how I was going to answer this ultra-loaded question in a text message was beyond me. And as you and I know, long-term fat loss is not something to be done as quickly as possible.

The best I could do was send him the download link to my ebook. Because the fact of the matter is that I have no idea WHY my cousin is overweight in the first place.

And that’s what I want to talk about today.

Everyday, my inbox is flooded with questions from viewers, readers, and listeners regarding specific symptoms and health conditions.

Questions like…

What can I do to keep my skin from breaking out?

I’ve had insomnia for years, and I’ve tried every supplement under the sun. Why doesn’t anything work?

My digestion is horrible. I have (insert symptoms here) almost daily. What do you think is wrong with me? HELP!

About 90-percent of the time, my answer is this…

The Podcast About GMOs, Detox, Skin Health, and Stuff…

This one got off to a wee bit of a rough start.

I was wondering why the heck I was hearing myself echo. Ended up having another tab open with the live show playing on delay in my headphones. Whoops! My bad.

Good thing I figured that one out pretty quick…

Anyway, we got the show started with an incredibly informative 5-minute briefing from Sherri Fogarty on the current genetically modified (GM) food labeling initiative going on here in California, as well as a few other states. Sherri has been on a mission for the past several months, working her tail off to get GM labeling on the ballot. She also fills us in on how the evil Monsanto is threatening to sue the State of Vermont if the State pursues a labeling law. That’s crazy stuff!

Learn more about the GM ballot initiative HERE.

Next up, my main man Reed Davis, founder of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition, drops some truth bombs, including:
