Detox Salad: The Garden of Goodness!

by Sean Croxton & Melissa Henig

I know! I know!

I was supposed to blog about glutathione, your most powerful antioxidant enzyme, today.

BUT I have a bunch of little stuff to do around the office, including preparation for tomorrow’s radio show. Come back tomorrow and I’ll drop some more antioxidant truth bombs on you.

In the meantime, get a load of this yummy Detox Salad courtesy of our favorite Raw Food Stylist, Melissa Henig.

The main detoxifying ingredient is cilantro. It pulls out all kinds of nasty toxins, including heavy metals like mercury.

Personally, I like to have cilantro as a garnish when I’m chowing down on fish due to the mercury issue. I also like it on my eggs along with turmeric, of course!

It’s great on tacos, too!

Here’s what you’ll need:

* Food Processor w/Shredder Blade
* Cilantro
* Red Peppers
* Green Onions
* Ginger
* Cold Press XV Olive Oil
* Lemon
* Apple Cider Vinegar
* Maple Syrup

Just mix them all up, put ’em on a plate, and throw down!!

This a great excuse to stop by your local Farmers Market this weekend. Get to know your farmers. Go organic. And get your detox on with this Real Food Fantastic dish!

Post your thoughts, videos, and Detox Salad pics on our NEW Just Eat Real Food Facebook fan page. Lots of great stuff on there!

See you tomorrow!

See you next week.

I Heart Coconut Oil!

by Sean Croxton

It’s the coconut oil, baby!

Last year, I lubed up my head and face, got my keyboard all sticky, and posted one of the most infamous videos ever made on the benefits of coconut oil. I think I’ve gotten more email about coconut oil than just about any other topic I’ve vlogged about.

The video was so popular that one night I was standing in front of a gay nightclub in San Francisco (don’t ask!) and a man asked me, “Hey, aren’t you that coconut oil guy?”

Yeah, that’s me.

Typical coconut queries revolve around weight loss and its ability to boost metabolism. But there is so much more to it!

So, today I thought I’d pay homage by starting a series of blogs on the oil that I dare not live without. Even if you’re the most steadfast saturated fat phobe, I guarantee that after reading this series you’ll have at least one coconut-oil-stained shirt in no time.

I’ve got a bunch.

I’m thinking five blogs will be enough to do the job. Then we’ll cap it all off with next week’s UW Radio show (Thursday, April 28) with Bruce Fife, author of The Coconut Oil Miracle. Should be a pretty dope show!

We’ll start our series with a short discussion on heart disease. It seems as though every time I introduce coconut oil to friends and family, they go on and on about how it’s loaded with saturated fat and how it will crank up their cholesterol levels and make their hearts stop.

Where did this fear of the coconut originate? Well, let’s take a trip back in time.

This is Silly.

by Sean Croxton

Long time, no blog.

I wish I could tell you all about how busy I’ve been, but to be honest I’ve just been kinda chillin’. The radio show has been on a month-long hiatus (Robb Wolf this Thursday!). The “did you know” Facebook posts have taken a break. And I finally dusted off the Tweetdeck last night.

The TV show is in production. Just yesterday, my crew and I went over to Mark Sisson’s place and filmed our third episode. So far, we’ve shot with Gary Taubes, Todd Durkin, Dr. Tom O’Bryan, and Steve Cotter. You guys are going to LOVE the show!

What else is going on in Croxton World?

Well, I think I’m going through a phase that all health bloggers go through at some point or another. It’s the point at which we ask ourselves just what the heck else can we say about food that we haven’t said before. And how do we continue the discussion without losing the average Joes and Janes who just want to eat/live well and without attracting the neurotic orthorectics who turn food into a religion?
